BioLife Is Now Registered with the US FDA: What It Means (and What It Doesn't)
BioLife's manufacturing facility in Islamabad is now registered with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a food facility. It is a proud step for a Pakistani brand that started in 2011, and we want to explain it honestly: what the registration is, what it means for you, and what it does not mean.
🏭 What happened
Bio Life Enterprises Nutraceuticals, at Plot 284, Industrial Triangle, Kahuta Road, Islamabad, has completed food facility registration with the US FDA and appointed a US agent, as FDA requires of facilities outside the United States.
Under US law, any facility in the US or abroad that manufactures, processes, packs or holds food for people in the United States must register with FDA, and dietary supplements count as food for this purpose (FDA guidance on food facility registration). A registration has to be renewed every two years, between 1 October and 31 December of each even-numbered year, and it includes an assurance that FDA may inspect the facility (FDA biennial registration fact sheet).
✅ What it means for you
- Our facility is on FDA's register. FDA knows who we are, where we make our products and who runs the facility.
- We have agreed to be inspected. Registration includes an assurance that FDA can inspect the facility as US law allows.
- It opens the door to the US. Registration is one of the requirements a Pakistani maker must meet before its products can be shipped to the United States. Products must also meet US labelling and manufacturing rules.
⚠️ What it does not mean
FDA registration is not an FDA approval of BioLife or of any BioLife product. FDA's own guidance says registration "does NOT convey FDA approval or endorsement of the facility or its products" (FDA). FDA also does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are sold (FDA: Is It Really "FDA Approved"?).
That is why you will not see "FDA approved" on our products. We say "registered with the US FDA as a food facility", because that is what is true.
🔍 A tip when you shop for supplements
If a supplement in Pakistan is sold as "FDA approved" or "FDA certified", be careful. FDA does not issue certificates of registration and does not recognise certificates issued by private companies (FDA). Any certificate a company shows comes from a private registration service, not from FDA. Look instead for DRAP enlistment, a clear manufacturer name and address, and honest claims.
